How to migrate your data from Smart Shooter 5

Smart Shooter 6 can be installed alongside Smart Shooter 5. The two versions will not interfere with each other, and you can continue to use Smart Shooter 5 while evaluating Smart Shooter 6.

Data Migration

When Smart Shooter 6 is launched for the first time, it will detect any existing Smart Shooter 5 installation and offer to migrate your data. This includes:

  • Camera names and serial number associations

  • Camera presets

  • Application options and settings

Note

The migration is a one-time operation. After the migration is complete, changes made in Smart Shooter 5 will not be reflected in Smart Shooter 6, and vice versa.

License

Smart Shooter 6 requires a separate license from Smart Shooter 5. Your existing Smart Shooter 5 license will not work with Smart Shooter 6. Please visit https://kuvacode.com/smartshooter6 to purchase a new license.

What’s New

Smart Shooter 6 includes the following major improvements over Smart Shooter 5:

  • New camera support – Many recent Canon, Nikon, Sony and Fujifilm models are now supported. See Supported Cameras for the full list

  • Language support – The application interface can be displayed in 18 languages in addition to English, chosen when the app is first run and changed at any time afterwards

  • New Dashboard window – A dedicated window for monitoring multiple cameras at a glance, with a tile per camera showing its status and the most recently taken photo

  • Photo ratings – Apply star ratings to photos and filter the photo views by rating

  • Photo import – Import photos that are already on a camera’s memory card, as well as downloading new photos as they are taken

  • Enhanced Filmstrip – New photo grid layout mode and orientation controls for organising photos

  • Filtering and sorting – Filter and sort controls in the Filmstrip, Photos, Cameras and Dashboard windows, for finding photos and cameras quickly

  • Improved macOS camera support – New native camera backend using Apple’s ImageCaptureCore API

  • Database-driven storage – Camera and photo data is now stored in a persistent database, providing better reliability and faster performance

What’s Changed

Two features that were part of Smart Shooter 5 work differently in Smart Shooter 6:

  • Lightroom Classic plugin – The plugin has been removed. Changes made by Adobe had already stopped it working with any camera that Lightroom Classic supports natively. Photos can still be brought into Lightroom as they are taken, by pointing Lightroom’s own Auto Import at the download folder, as described in Tethered Shooting with Lightroom Auto Import.

  • External API – The API is now an add-on, bought separately from the license, rather than being included as it was in Smart Shooter 5. Until the license includes it, the External API tab in the Options window is greyed out. See External API.
